Spicy Shrimp Tacos with Garlic Cilantro Lime Slaw

Juicy shrimps, perfectly spiced up, stuffed in a Taco shell along with a refreshing coleslaw infused with herbs, garlic and lime. Does’nt that sound amazing?

It makes for a great meal idea for dinner, lunch or even for an Iftar gathering during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Personally, I just can’t get enough of Tacos. They are incredible when made right and if you are someone who enjoy shrimps in general, this would be an awesome choice for you to try.

I adapted this recipe from Pinch of Yum when I made it as an Iftar meal last year during Ramadan. It was a great addition to our menu that day, which was loved by everyone who tried it.

I can’t recommend it enough, it’s totally enjoyable and worth making!

Ingredients

  • 500gm shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails removed

  • 2–3 cups green cabbage, shredded

  • 8 small tortillas (corn or flour)

  • Spice Mix for Shrimps
  • 2 Tsp chili powder

  • 2 Tsp cumin powder

  • 1/2 Tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 Tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (more or less to taste)

  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

  • Cilantro-lime dressing
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1/2 cup cilantro leaves

  • juice of 2 medium-sized limes

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or full-fat yogurt

  • 1/2 Tsp salt

Directions

  • In a blender or food processor, add all the ingredients for the dressing and pulse until smooth.
  • Pour 3/4th of the dressing into a bowl along with the shredded cabbage. Toss until they’re all coated well. Reserve the rest to top later.
  • Dry the shrimps using a paper towel and then toss them in a small bowl with the spice mix to coat.
  • In a skillet, heat a drizzle of vegetable oil over medium high heat. Add shrimps to the hot pan and sauté for 5-8 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the shrimps are all cooked through.
  • Assembly: Toast the Tortilla lightly directly on top of a flame using a set of steel kitchen tongs. Arrange the coleslaw in the toasted Tacos along with the shrimps. Pour a drizzle of additional dressing on top and have it fresh!

Notes

  • You may add additional mashed avocado, cheese and/or lime juice on top for a more enhanced and filling taco.
